The ceremony is at the start of three days of official events marking the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo during which around 5000 historical re-enactors from around the world will take part in events culminating in a re-enactment of the allied defeat of Napoleon's army on June 20th. The 1815 battle saw the overthrow of Napoleon Bonaparte and the restoration of Louis XVIII to the French throne.
